Rumah Kasih was made one of the main beneficiaries for The St Patrick’s of Selangor Charity Auction held on 13 May 2017 at Damansara Heights.
It was a glamourous night of food and drinks with off-track betting on horse raising for the Irish community and their guests to help raise funds for the charity home managed by Persatuan Kebajikan Kasih (PKK).
Commendably, RM91,000 was raised during the 4 hours gathering where some 70 Irish people and their guests attended the fundraiser.
Membership of St. Patrick’s Society of Selangor comprise of the Irish community in Malaysia. They organise social and cultural events and do raise funds for charities. Their biggest event for the year is St. Patrick’s Ball to commemorate St. Patrick’s Day.
PKK was represented by the President Peter Anthony Das and senior committee members in support of the fundraiser.
Our Rumah Kasih student Ms Wendy Tan Yen Ling who is currently doing her Business Studies (Accountancy) at University Tunku Abdul Rahman shared her pathetic story to the guests on how she and her two sisters were left at the shelter by her single mother who went on to work in Singapore to support them.
Wendy Tan who was fourteen then, expressed her fears and sadness but remained strong to convinced her younger sisters that she would take care of them while staying at the home with strangers.
It was an emotional moment for many as the guests listened to her story with rapt attention. After she ended her story, St. Patrick’s Past President Ron Anderson and his wife Mary generously donated RM7,200 to help partially support her education.
The guests also had an insight into the journey of other Rumah Kasih children who stopped schooling due to family poverty but was given a chance to continue with their studies when they were enrolled with the shelter.
The cheque presentation was held at Rumah Kasih with fellowship.
